Why a Zone Indicator Should Sometimes Draw Nothing

An overlay that always finds a zone is easy to demonstrate and hard to trust. If every minor swing receives the same visual weight, the chart cannot tell you which move qualified under the tool’s own rules and which one merely happened last.

The zone comes after the quality gate

Impulse Waves & Reversal Zones computes an Impulse Quality Score on a zero-to-one-hundred scale. The Pine source combines Efficiency Ratio and Displacement Percentile with equal weight. A with-structure leg must meet the Impulse Strength Min input before the correction zone and projection layers are eligible to appear.

The score is not a probability and is not linked to an account result. It is an internal grading rule for deciding whether the leg was direct and unusually displaced relative to the script’s recent comparison set.

“No zone” is information about the filter

When a visible price move fails the threshold, the script staying quiet is the expected outcome. Raising Impulse Strength Min makes the gate stricter; lowering it allows more legs through. Swing Filter (ATR) and the left/right pivot settings change which swing structure is available to grade.

That is why settings should not be tuned until a historical chart looks attractive. Every adjustment changes what counts as an eligible impulse. Compare settings over a declared history and keep the rule fixed while interpreting the output.

Protected structure prevents every correction from becoming a reversal

The overlay retains a structural direction until its protected swing logic changes. A correction against the impulse is therefore not automatically relabeled as a new trend. The quality gate decides whether the original leg deserves a mapped zone; structure decides whether that premise remains intact.

Geometry is not performance

After a leg qualifies, the script can render its retracement band and extension lines. Those levels are deterministic geometry from the selected impulse. They do not estimate profitability, success frequency or future direction. The full IWRZ product guide shows how each layer is drawn.

Settings verified in source

The algorithm group contains ATR Length, Swing Filter (ATR), Pivot Left Bars, Pivot Right Bars, Impulse Strength Min and Channel Width (ATR). The visual group controls the skeleton, zone, projections, stop/R:R layer and labels. The higher-timeframe group exposes automatic selection, three manual timeframes and panel position. There is no hidden performance-mode input.

Honest limitation

Filtering low-quality legs can reduce visual noise, but it cannot make the surviving zones predictive. A strict gate can still admit a move that later fails, and a rejected leg can still precede a large move. The overlay is a consistent structural filter, not a trade-selection guarantee.
